Hot Grand Canyon Las Vegas Helicopter Tours For The Memorial Day Holiday}

Click Here To Find Out More About:

Submitted by: Rhegie Taylor

Ready to do a Las Vegas Grand Canyon Helicopter tour during the Memorial Day Holiday? Awesome! Pick from a no-landing or landing tour and see the Canyon the way it was meant to be experienced – from the air!

From Vegas!

Vegas is ideally situated for helicopter tours. But keep in mind, they only go to the West Rim, which is a 125-mile flight that takes a helicopter about 45 minutes to complete.. Some folks want the South Rim, and that can be accommodated, but you have to take a plane first and then a helicopter from Tusayan, AZ. .

The flight path for all tours is the same. You go over Lake Mead, Fortification Hill, Hoover Dam, Colorado River and the Canyon. If you’re doing a no-landing, you’ll turn back for Vegas. If you’re doing a landing tour, you’ll go to the top, the bottom or both.

Landing Tours

I personally prefer landing tours as you get to see and do more. Specifically, I like the tour that lands at the base and comes with a Champagne Picnic. People who go this route also like to upgrade this trip to include a Colorado River boat ride.

Tours that land on top are called Skywalk tours. These trips include VIP tickets to the glass bridge, a snack pack, free shuttle service between the Guano and Eagle Points and about 2 hours on the rim for exploration (remember to make time for the Native American dances and culture). .

Skywalk

For those unfamiliar with the Glass Bridge, it’s an all-glass platform that lets you walk 70 feet over the edge until you’re standing about 4.000 feet over the bottom. It’s an amazing sensation and the views you get are simply spectacular.

Tours from Vegas are either basic or deluxe. The key difference is the kind of helicopter used. The basic tours use the old helicopters and the deluxe tours use the new ones. I personally prefer deluxe because of the new helicopter and all the perks that come with the package.

Deluxe Helicopter

The new helicopter, for example, is 25 percent bigger than the old helicopter. It’s also equipped with a 180-degree windshield and bucket seats that are configured stadium style so everyone has a great view of the National Park. Lastly, these machines are equipped with great climate control, which is invaluable during summer and winter months.

I recommend booking a Vegas heli tour in advance. I recommend trying to book a week ahead of time in order to get the best seats and the cheapest price. I do not recommend booking same day because the price will be more and the seats might be sold out. And remember to complete your booking online in order to qualify for the Internet rate, which is fixed and final and the cheapest.

Conclusion

I hope this article about Grand Canyon Las Vegas helicopter tours during the Memorial Day Holiday proved helpful. As noted, I prefer landing tours, and especially the one that comes with the Champagne picnic. I also recommend going with a deluxe tour because you fly in the new chopper. Lastly, book your tour now. Waiting until the last minute means higher prices and the possibility that the tour is sold out.

Mascots for Vancouver 2010 Olympics based on native mythology

Tuesday, November 27, 2007

The mascots of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia were just announced. Based on mythological characters, they are Miga, Quatchi and Sumi.

Miga, a sea bear who lives in the ocean with her family pod near Tofino, and Quatchi, a young sasquatch, represent the Olympics, while Sumi represents the Paralympics that follow afterward.

A sea bear is a First Nations creature, part killer whale, part Kermode spirit bear. While illustrated as being taller than the other characters, the mascot costume of Quatchi is the same height as the other two characters.

The third mascot, Sumi, an animal-guardian spirit, is a Thunderbird that wears the hat of an orca. Sumi will be the mascot of the Paralympics.

In 2004, the Times Colonist suggested a marmot might be a good mascot, except for their winter hibernation. The organizers still chose one, named Mukmuk, as their “virtual only” counterpart.

After the Olympic logo design was leaked the day before the 2005 announcement, organizers were extremely tight lipped until today’s news conference at a Surrey school. They apparently didn’t do any development on the characters on internet-enabled computers, to ensure the images or information wouldn’t slip out.

The characters were designed by the Vancouver and Los Angeles-based Meomi Design. Their characters have been used as part of iGoogle, a customizable homepage option from Google, as well as Electronic Arts, Girls Inc., Time Out Magazine, Cyworld, Nick Jr., Bang-on Clothing, and CBC4Kids.

The Vancouver organizers have a CDN$46-million merchandising program; previous Olympics have made as much as $100 million from mascot-related products.

René Fasel, Chairman of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Coordination Commission commented that “The IOC welcomes these imaginative new additions to the Olympic Family as they take their place on the world stage today – a symbol of the Games and of Canada. We know that when Olympians, Paralympians and visitors from around the globe arrive in British Columbia at Games time, they will fall under the spell of these captivating characters.”

The characters first appearance will be at a Bay store in the Lower Mainland; HBC is a major sponsor of the Games. They will then make their way to schools, take a break through the Christmas season, and fly to Ottawa for the Winterlude festival.

Deadly fire below US President’s Trump Tower residence

Tuesday, April 10, 2018

On Saturday, the Trump Tower, in Midtown, New York City, caught fire shortly before 18:00 EST (2200 UTC) on the 50th floor, claiming the life of a 67-year-old resident, Todd Brassner, who lived in apartment 50C. All other residents were evacuated without incident. During the fire, six firefighters received non-life-threatening burns and other minor injuries. Neither US President Donald Trump nor the First Family were in the building at the time of the fire.

The high-end Fifth Avenue address is the personal residence of President Donald Trump, whose family occupies the top three stories of the 58-story building. The US Secret Service maintains a constant security presence inside the building with the New York City Police Department guarding a hard perimeter, intended to stop vehicular attacks, and a soft perimeter, intended for on-foot attacks.

The four-alarm fire required 200 firemen, extra police, and paramedics. At 20:00 EST (0000 UTC Sunday), the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) declared the fire was under control. Trump tweeted, “Firemen (and women) did a great job. THANK YOU!” This is the second fire at Trump Tower since the election; previously on January 8, a fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in a cooling tower on the roof. Three FDNY firefighters received minor injuries, and all residents and office workers evacuated without incident on that occasion.

Trump Tower provides a number of unique problems never before encountered by the Secret Service. Never has a US President’s personal residence been inside a skyscraper or in a densely populated area like Midtown. The security measures have disrupted vehicular and pedestrian traffic requiring time consuming detours and delaying emergency response.

The New York Fire Code did not mandate sprinkler systems at the time Trump Tower was built in 1983, which might have reduced the size and severity of the fire had they been present. The 50th-floor apartment was, according to FDNY Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro, “[T]he apartment was virtually, entirely on fire.” The Secret Service monitors all the fire alarms in the building but it took time to find the source of the thick black smoke emanating from the fire. Secret Service Agents escorted the firefighters throughout the building, including the Trump residence.

Brassner, the sole casualty, was unconscious when firefighters pulled him out of apartment 50C. He was transported to Mount Sinai Roosevelt Hospital. Originally listed as critical, he was pronounced dead sometime during the night. Brassner, guitar collector, was acquainted with artist Andy Warhol and was acknowledged in Warhol’s 1989 autobiography, The Andy Warhol Diaries. The cause of the fire is unknown, with investigations into Brassner’s death and the emergency response ongoing. Currently, the Secret Service leads the investigation.

Jimmy Wales accused of editing Wikipedia for donations

This article mentions the Wikimedia Foundation, one of its projects, or people related to it. Wikinews is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Friday, March 14, 2008

Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has been accused of editing pages in the encyclopedia in return for a donation to the Wikimedia Foundation. In an article published Tuesday, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that former Novell computer scientist Jeff Merkey alleged Wales had made edits to his article on his behalf, in exchange for a donation to the Wikimedia Foundation. The news hit the website Slashdot later Tuesday, where the incident was dubbed “DonorGate”.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Merkey claims that he was told by Wales in 2006 that the Wikipedia article about him could be made more favorable in exchange for a donation. Merkey made a donation of US$5,000 to the Wikimedia Foundation, and Wales made edits to the Wikipedia article about Merkey around the same time. Merkey published his claims on a public Wikimedia mailing list and sent a statement to The Associated Press.

Of course I would never offer, nor accept any offer, whereby a donation would buy someone special editorial treatment in the encyclopedia.

In a response Wales called Merkey’s statements “nonsense”, saying “Of course I would never offer, nor accept any offer, whereby a donation would buy someone special editorial treatment in the encyclopedia. I do routinely assist people with WP:BLP issues, and I do courtesies for many people. Donations have no bearing on that at all.” WP:BLP refers to Wikipedia’s policy regarding biographies of living persons on the encyclopedia.

After deleting the Wikipedia article about Merkey in 2006, Wales wrote to Wikipedia editors he had done so “because of the unpleasantness of it” and requested that they “be extra careful here to be courteous and assume good faith”. After erasing the article, Wales placed the article under protection with editing access limited to established users. Merkey ceased his $5,000.00 per year payments to the Wikimedia Foundation after reviewing what he called “evidence of diversion and mismanagement of the charities funds by Wales and the Wikimedia Board of Trustees”.

The Wikimedia Foundation, its staff and board members, and the users of Wikipedia itself hold the core principles of ‘no conflict of interest’ in the highest regard.

In a statement responding to a post about the incident on the site Techtree.com, Wikimedia Foundation’s Head of Communications Jay Walsh addressed the Foundation’s principles regarding conflict of interest: “The Wikimedia Foundation (the Foundation which operates and maintains Wikipedia and other free knowledge projects) has never solicited or accepted donations for the purposes of making edits or offering protection to Wikipedia articles. Nor has Jimmy Wales ever solicited or accepted donations for the Foundation in this capacity. These allegations are completely false. … Jimmy has been unfailingly ethical and frugal in the use of all Foundation funds. The Wikimedia Foundation, its staff and board members, and the users of Wikipedia itself hold the core principles of ‘no conflict of interest’ in the highest regard.”

After leaving Novell amidst allegations of misappropriation of trade secrets, Merkey was sued by his former employer. He filed a harassment lawsuit against organizations including the website Slashdot in 2005. Merkey filed a suit against Delta Air Lines and Natural Selection Foods in 2006, claiming his son had become sick from E. coli contaminated spinach.

Merkey is banned from editing Wikipedia due to a ruling by Wikipedia’s Arbitration Committee. The Wikipedia Signpost, Wikipedia’s community-written and community-edited newspaper, reported that a Wikipedia user account used by Merkey was blocked in October 2005 for “Personal attacks, legal threats, harassment, disruption”. Merkey was later allowed to come back to edit Wikipedia in May 2007 under a different account. As the result of a ruling by Wikipedia’s Arbitration Committe in a July 2007 arbitration case, Merkey and two users who had harassed him on Wikipedia were banned from editing the encyclopedia for one year.

Last week Jimmy Wales faced accusations by former Wikimedia Foundation executive Danny Wool that he misused the non-profit organization’s funds, and attempted to expense a visit to a Moscow massage parlor and high-priced bottles of wine. In an interview with CNET TV, Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Sue Gardner described Wool as “a disgruntled former employee” and called his claims “a whole bunch of unsubstantiated rumors and gossip”. Wales’s former girlfriend, journalist Rachel Marsden, recently leaked purported instant message transcripts with Wales, which implied Wales had used his influence to change the article about Marsden on Wikipedia. Wales ended his relationship with Marsden and made a public statement to that effect on Wikipedia, and in response Marsden opened an auction for some of Wales’s clothing on eBay.

By Chris Malcolm

“Free Scratch Tickets, Real Prizes! Click on the scratch ticket image to play your free scratch ticket for real prizes now! No cost, no registration! You must be over 18 years. This contest is VOID in any jurisdiction within the United States, Canada or elsewhere where participation is prohibited by law.” — MR FREE

The sound of the word “free” is tempting; and the sound of the phrase “real prizes” is even more appealing. What is there to lose? Anyway, it’s all free. The ad said it requires no information and all you got to do is to click the image to play your free scratch tickets. Everything seems like it’s a win-win situation.

You have probably just joined the thousands of people who could not resist scratching the card using the mouse and rubbing off the ticket’s covering… Congratulations you have won!!! Or, have you?

Free scratch tickets, instant win game, scratch off, free scratch cards, scratch and win, scratch ticket, scratcher, scratch to match, scratch2cash, scratch prize tickets, scratch off, scratch game – there are indeed a lot of names for these games. The common goal is to have anything from 3, 6 or 9 and the golden or silver panels are meant to be rubbed to reveal the symbols. Most of the themes are colorful and they range from pictures of pirates, cowboys, space, card symbols or even just anything under the sun. Surprisingly, almost all of the free scratch tickets always reveal winning symbols. Indeed, they’re free; but where is the catch?

Some websites will give you chances to play free online. They won’t ask you to register any information until such time that you would have to be notified if you’ve won the game. So after finishing the game, you would have to reveal your name and e-mail address. Other scratch cards websites are even more intrusive. They would even ask for your address, phone number, occupation, marital status, salary range, age, date of birth, and a lot more of information. In a way, it doesn’t seem free at all. You have given your information and that’s the payment for playing their online free scratch tickets.

And what happens to the prize? Certainly you are given the jackpot prize points that you can spend on their website. You can play more games that give you more chances of winning as you reveal more of yourself. During your visits, you are tempted to play more. You start to gamble and you get yourself in a situation that most internet gamblers are in. Your free scratch tickets have leading you to the road of online gambling. Months will pass and you would become an active member of the online gambling community. Sooner or later, you would find yourself betting more than you can afford.

Free scratch tickets definitely sound appealing. They would always persuade you to start playing and start winning. Nevertheless, as soon as you start winning; you start to keep yourself from resisting or from stopping.

British motorists showered with cash on motorway

Friday, June 17, 2005

Drivers on Britain’s M3 motorway were stunned to be confronted with a shower of cash on Tuesday evening.

Eleven thousand pounds‘ worth of £20 notes were blown from the rucksack of a passenger on a motorcycle at 7:30pm, while the motorway was busy with traffic.

Just £500 was recovered; the rest is believed to have been blown away in the windy evening. At least four other drivers quickly stopped, causing Hampshire police concern for safety.

The police are now investigating as to why the pair were carrying so much money. Carrying large amounts of money is not illegal, but is highly unusual. The riders said they had been to a car auction, returning empty-handed.

The motorcyclists re-started their journey, but the cycle broke down just two junctions on.

India: Maharashtra plastic ban comes into force

Monday, June 25, 2018

On Saturday, the plastic ban in the Indian state of Maharashtra came into force. In an attempt to minimise pollution, the state government has introduced a ban on single-use plastics.

The leader of the Yuya Sena political party, Aaditya Thackeray, said on Twitter, “The ban on single use disposable plastic cups, plastic bags, plastic straws, plastic plates and cutlery, styrofoam cutlery and non woven bags”. He added, “these are global issues now and we have taken a step to combat it”.

Plastic pollution has led to the choking of drains, marine pollution and a risk of animals consuming plastics. This year, India’s motto for World Environment Day — June 5 — was “Beat Plastic Pollution”. People violating the plastic ban are to face a fine of 5,000 Indian Rupees (INR) for the first offence. For the second offence, the fine is INR 10,000 and the third time offence is INR 25,000 and a three-month prison term. Deputy municipal commissioner Nidhi Choudhary said, “To weed out corruption, we plan to give inspectors payment gadgets for electronic receipts of the fines”.

The Maharashtra government has given a 90-day period for manufacturers to dispose of existing polyethylene terephthalate (PET/PETE) plastic spoons and plates, while shopkeepers and citizens in general have six months to dispose of plastics. However, the ban does not prohibit plastic usage for wrapping medicines or milk cartons thicker than 50 microns.

The state government had announced the decision for the plastic ban on March 23. According to NDTV’s report, Maharashtra is the eighteenth Indian state to enforce a state-wide plastic ban. Aaditya Thackeray also said, “I congratulate the citizens for making this into a movement, even before the ban was enforceable, giving up single use disposable plastic.”

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

Sunday, August 21, 2005

A robotic system at Stanford Medical Center was used to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery successfully with a theoretically similar rate of complications to that seen in standard operations. However, as there were only 10 people in the experimental group (and another 10 in the control group), this is not a statistically significant sample.

If this surgical procedure is as successful in large-scale studies, it may lead the way for the use of robotic surgery in even more delicate procedures, such as heart surgery. Note that this is not a fully automated system, as a human doctor controls the operation via remote control. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is a treatment for obesity.

There were concerns that doctors, in the future, might only be trained in the remote control procedure. Ronald G. Latimer, M.D., of Santa Barbara, CA, warned “The fact that surgeons may have to open the patient or might actually need to revert to standard laparoscopic techniques demands that this basic training be a requirement before a robot is purchased. Robots do malfunction, so a backup system is imperative. We should not be seduced to buy this instrument to train surgeons if they are not able to do the primary operations themselves.”

There are precedents for just such a problem occurring. A previous “new technology”, the electrocardiogram (ECG), has lead to a lack of basic education on the older technology, the stethoscope. As a result, many heart conditions now go undiagnosed, especially in children and others who rarely undergo an ECG procedure.

RC Cars & Trucks Introduction/Nitro Hobbies

by

Yuconman

Radio-controlled (or R/C) cars are self-powered model cars or trucks that can be controlled from a distance using a specialized transmitter. The term \”R/C\” has been used to mean both \”remote controlled\” and \”radio controlled\”, where \”remote controlled\” includes vehicles that are connected to their controller by a wire, but common use of \”R/C\” today usually refers to vehicles controlled by a radio-frequency link.

Picking out your first vehicle is perhaps the most exciting part of R/C racing. Many of today s most popular choices arrive Ready-to-Run. Also known as \”RTRs,\” these vehicles usually come complete with a 2-or 3-Channel radio, motor or engine, ESC, batteries and more. These vehicles are usually targeted at new modelers and \”backyard\” drivers, rather than racers bent on winning organized competitions.

The term \”toy-grade\” in regards to radio control cars and trucks is used to describe vehicles of the pre-assembled type generally found in discount stores and consumer stores or even on the internet at a steep discount. Sometimes they are colloquially referred to as \”Radio Shack cars\”. Some toy-grade R/C models may also be found in hobby shops in an attempt to gain some market share from discount stores and appeal to younger users. Cost is one of the biggest advantages of toy R/C vehicles. The average medium-scale toy R/C car is around $50 $150 cheaper than an entry-level electric hobby class vehicle. Toy class vehicles are easy to operate, have a relatively low danger level (top speeds are typically under 20 mph (with most capable of only about 10 mph, and are even easier to set up than the simplest hobby class ready-to-run vehicles (RTR\’s).

One of the biggest disadvantages of Toy-grade R/C cars and trucks is that they are typically manufactured with a focus on design coupled with reducing production costs or overhead. Whereas a hobby-grade car will have a standardized replaceable motor and separate electronic components that are individually replaceable if they fail, toy grade cars are typically made with non-standard motors, non-replaceable chassis components and a single electronic circuit board integrated into the design of the car or truck. This makes it very difficult, if not impossible to repair.

Hobby grade vehicles on the other hand include a number of cars and trucks are presently available only in ready-to-run form. The growing popularity of the RTR vehicle has prompted many manufacturers to discontinue production of kit vehicles. High-spec racing vehicles are generally still available or sold only as kits, and companies like ThunderTiger, Losi, HPI and Tamiya sell kit and RTR versions with the benefits of a kit version being in upgraded parts or lower costs, respectively. But with a hobby grade radio controlled car or truck can cost much more. Hobby grade can range from $80 $1500 or more and reach speeds of 30-60MPH.

RC toys are suitable for almost anyone. But when you step up to a hobby-grade RC it can require more time, money and patience to develop the skills to successfully operate and care for the vehicle. An entry level RC car or truck has features suitable for those new to radio controlled vehicles.

Beyond an electric RTR, the other features suitable in an entry-level RC cars or trucks for beginners depend on how much you\’re willing to spend, how and where you plan to use the RC, and what you like personally whether it be a sedan, sports car, drifting car, monster truck, buggy, truggy, stadium truck, etc.

There will be thousands of RC vehicles to choose from, so make sure to read some forums to find the right one for you. Forums can be your best friend when purchasing an RC product. For more info: http://nitrohobbiesrc.com
