Microsoft waits for death of Internet Explorer 6

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

With development of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) browser almost complete, Microsoft announced on Friday that it is time for IE6 users to move away from the antiquated 10-year-old browser. Microsoft has replaced it with three newer versions. On a new website, “The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown”, Microsoft has launched an aggressive campaign to persuade users to stop using IE6 and update to a newer IE. Its goal is to decrease IE6 users to less than one percent.

“[Ten] years ago, a browser was born. Its name was Internet Explorer 6. Now that we’re in 2011, in an era of modern web standards, it’s time to say goodbye,” Microsoft says on “The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown”.

Internet Explorer’s market share is slipping. IE’s various versions accounted for 70 percent of the market in 2009; this has dropped to approximately 56 percent today. Mozilla Firefox, its main rival, has been actively increasing its market share while the recently released Google Chrome is also quickly gaining users. PC World’s recent analysis of its own web traffic statistics concluded, “Usually, Internet Explorer is the #2 browser after Firefox, but over the past 30 days it’s been #3, a couple of points behind Safari-and nearly tied with Chrome. It might be a statistical blip. But if it isn’t, and Chrome continues to surge, IE could fall to fourth place.”

Web developers face big problems with IE6. As they design their web pages for the newer browsers with advanced web technology and geared to the newest web core markup language HTML 5, they are forced to accommodate older out-of-date technology to support IE6 users. Also, not mentioned on Microsoft’s “The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown” site, are the numerous security vulnerabilities putting the browser at risk of being hacked. The Internet security firm Secunia.com, has said that as of March 4, 2011, IE6 has 277 vulnerabilities; 39 percent of these are rated “highly critical”. Microsoft says that the latest versions of Internet Explorer provide the user with enhanced protection from these attacks and threats.

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 6 is one of the most successful software products ever as measured by its durability and the massive numbers of people who have used it. IE6 shipped with Windows XP, nearly a decade ago. But it has outlived its usefulness, and Microsoft no longer wants to support it.

Tips Before Select Bike Carriers To Suit Your Requirements Or Needs}

Submitted by: Tony Bulic

It always seem like such a hassle when you are trying to find the perfect bike carrier for your bike. One might think, aren’t they all the same? No! Not all bike carriers are the same. Vehicle-Accessories has quality bike carriers to fit your needs. Bikes can cost a pretty penny so, read on about tips that can help you select a bike carrier that suits your needs and requirements.

Ask yourself, what will be the purpose of your bike carrier?

Are you going on a biking trip with friends, taking your kids on a ride with their bikes, or are you going on a solo adventure? Keep in mind that the purpose of using bike carriers is to help you carry your bike around more easily. You will want to decide how many bikes you want to fit on your carrier before it’s too late.

Choose a bike carrier that you like, not others.

People will always want to put their two cents in about everything you do. Some people can’t help it (*parents*) but they want to make sure you choose the right product. But choosing a product that someone has recommended does not mean that it is a perfect fit for you. Stick to your gut feeling and choose the bike carrier you want.

Do you want the standard carrier or custom made?

Vehicle-Accessories offers custom made bike carriers to fit the special design of your car and your needs. Not all cars are made equally and some people will want a different bike carrier designed exclusively for them.

Choose a bike carrier that is easy for you to use.

You can choose a roof-mounted carrier, rear-mounted Prorack Ski Rack or a tow bar/hitch mounted carrier for your bike. All of them are great products but if you are a petite person and are constantly installing and removing your bike from the roof, you may be straining yourself and it is not the right fit for you.

Take into consideration your vehicle.

More often than not, people will forget that the Rhino Rack Ski Carrier will be mounted on their vehicle. If you have an older car, then you may want to reconsider the heavy duty carriers because they can put added pressure on your car. The last thing you need is to buy a new car.

So the next time you go bike carrier shopping, keep this tip list in the back of you mind. It will make for an easy and stress free shopping trip. If you want the best then you will want to stick with Vehicle-Accessories bike carriers. So strap on your bike to a Vehicle-Accessories bike carrier and head out on an adventure!

2009 Shri Shyam Bhajan Hindu religious festival held in Hyderabad

Monday, August 17, 2009

The Shri Shyam Bhajan, a Hindu religious festival, was organised on August 15th in Hyderabad, India. This was the city’s annual function, which was coincidentally celebrated a day after Krishna Janmashtami, and on the occasion of Independence Day at the Nampally Exhibition Ground.

About 125,000 lamps were lit along the campus boundaries as evening fell. About 25,000 people participated at the event, and the program was broadcast live on Aastha TV.

Baba Shyam’s Durbar, the arena where idols of deity are situated, was very well-decorated. Four alternative colors, green, yellow, pink and blue were used to lighten up the shringar.

The program started at 8:30 p.m. local time (15.00 UTC). Famous singers across the country presented bhajans, or devotional songs, to Shri Shyam’s feet. Singer Sanju Sharma started the evening, followed by Jai Shankar Choudhary. Then, Lakkha Singh took the lead in singing the bhajans. 108 plates of Chhappan Bhog (in Hinduism, 56 different edible items, like, sweets, fruits, nuts, dishes etc. which are offered to deity) were served to Baba Shyam. Lakkha Singh presented the chhappan bhog bhajan as well. Singer, Raju Khandelwal was accompanying him.

Baba Shyam’s great devotee-cum-singer Nanduji came to present several of his creations to Shri Shyam. He was feeling tired, after having two long bhajan sessions — each three hours long — at different locations within the past day. 62-year old Nanduji has continuously served Baba Shyam for last 26 years.

The program was completed by Miss Arora, followed by Sanjay Mittal and Sanjay Kapoor. All singers were honoured with dupatta — a sacred piece of cloth worn across both shoulders — at the start of their performances, and a photo frame of Shri Krishna, as a memento at the end of their performances. Then, Baba’s aarti (a special song sung in praise of the deity) was performed as the closing ceremony.

Chinese government to safeguard old Beijing

Saturday, March 26, 2005

Beijing’s city legislature has approved a bill, one year in the making, to safeguard the historical and cultural heritage of old Beijing. The new 41-article set of regulations will come into effect May 1, requiring the city to protect listed heritage sites and unlisted sites deemed of historical or cultural value. It also guarantees protection for the area within the city’s Second Ring Road.

Director of the Beijing Administrative Bureau of Cultural Heritage, Mei Ninghua, said “the most encouraging content of the regulations is that Beijing will pay more attention to protecting the old city’s landscape in its entirety, rather than just focussing on scattered heritage sites.” This means the old city layout, colours of buildings, and the names of houses and lanes will have legal protection.

“We took measures to protect the city’s siheyuan courtyard houses by tagging protection plates on more than 650 of them in 2003, preventing them from being demolished or damaged during the city’s massive housing reconstruction projects,” said Mei.

“Now the new regulations give legal buttress to the protection of siheyuan courtyard homes, as well as other unmovable ancient treasures, that have yet to be listed but are at risk of being demolished during urban renovation.”

Modern Beijing, capital of China for 850 years, was built by Mongul Emporer Kublai Khan in 1267 AD. In the vicinity of the current city once was Ji (?), the capital of the State of Yan (?), a power of the Warring States Period – but it has been lost in the mists of time.
